JUST IN: Celta Vigo Sacked Head Coach Rafa Benitez
Celta Vigo has dismissed Rafa Benitez as their manager after less than a season at the helm.
The decision follows Celta Vigo’s 4-0 loss to Real Madrid over the weekend, which leaves the team just one place and two points above the relegation zone in La Liga.
During his tenure, Benitez only managed to win five out of 28 league matches with the club.
Having been appointed last summer, the 63-year-old and his departing staff were thanked by Celta Vigo in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The Spanish club praised Benitez and his team for their “honesty and professionalism” during their time with the club.
Prior to Celta Vigo, Benitez has managed prestigious clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Real Madrid.
