‘Yoruba, Igbo, Benin only Three Tribes In Nigeria’ – Davido
Afrobeat artist Davido mistakenly stated that Nigeria comprises only three tribes: Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin.
During a session with American content creator Kai Cenat, currently in Nigeria for a documentary, Davido made the error while in Lagos.
He said, “We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one.”
However, the National Bureau of Statistics reports that Nigeria is home to 371 tribes, with the dominant ones being Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, contrary to Davido’s assertion.
