BREAKING: Tension In CBN Over Allege Sack Of Top Directors
The reported sack and compulsory retirement of eight directors at the Central Bank of Nigeria are sparking tension and discontent within the institution.
It was gathered that Governor Yemi Cardoso is contemplating the removal or early retirement of these directors who were appointed during the tenure of former governor Godwin Emefiele.
Originally transferred to the FSS 2020 division, these directors are now said to be receiving retirement letters, with some allegedly receiving them as early as Friday, 15th March 2024.
The specifics of their exit terms are unclear, prompting speculation about the underlying reasons for this decision.
The uncertainty surrounding the situation is causing concern among CBN employees, who fear that this move might be indicative of further staff reductions during the current management’s term.
It is essential for the Central Bank of Nigeria to provide clarity on the rationale behind these actions to allay fears, promote transparency, and maintain morale within the institution.
Transitions and organizational changes can be disruptive, but effective communication and open dialogue can help mitigate tensions and foster a more positive work environment despite the challenges ahead.
One of the sources said: “We don’t know whether they were given early retirement or their appointments were terminated outright.”
Another source said the main reason for the sack of the affected officials was “because they had worked very closely with the immediate past governor of the bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele”.
