JUST IN: Governor Otu Sanctions Patrick Edi As Cross River Assembly Clerk, Appoints New Replacement
The Governor of Cross River State, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has sanctioned the immediate revocation of Mr. Patrick Edi’s designation as the Clerk of the House of Assembly.
Governor Bassey Otu conveyed this decision to the House of Assembly via a letter dated March 18, 2024, which was presented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh, and subsequently read by Speaker Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem on March 19, 2024.
Consequently, Barr. Catherine Ubi has been appointed as the substantive Clerk of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
In another development, the Cross River Assembly has expressed its determination to take legal action against former commissioners allegedly involved in the procurement of heavy-duty equipment valued at N10 billion during the Ayade administration, which reportedly remains unaccounted for.
According to the SSG’s letter, the reversal of the appointment was “based on the fact that the critical criterion for seniority was not highlighted or even made reference to in the recommendations made to His Excellency. Especially, while Mr. Patrick Edi was employed before Mrs Catherine Ubi, her becoming a director before the other gave her the advantage of seniority.”
