JUST IN: No New Moon Seen– Sultan Declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitr
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has announced that Wednesday, April 10, has been designated as the day of Eid-Fitri.
This decision was reached following the confirmation from National Moon Sighting Committees across Nigeria that the new moon was not sighted.
A statement signed by Prof Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, and released to the press in Sokoto on Monday evening, confirmed the council’s acceptance of the report.
Accordingly, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, has been declared as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.
“His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-El-Fitri,” the statement read.
Saudi Arabia has also reported that the crescent of Shawwal was not sighted on Monday, indicating the continuation of fasting on Tuesday.
The Eid-El-Fitr celebration is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, April 10, marking the commencement of the new Islamic month.
“The crescent moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, Eid Al Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10th April 2024.
“May Allāh allow us to utilise the remaining moments of this blessed month to engage in that which pleases Him, may He accept our siyām, qiyām & a’māl & may He allow us to witness many more Ramadāns in good health. Āmīn,” it wrote.
