BREAKING: Son of Norway’s Crown Princess, Marius Hoiby Arrested On Rape, Abuse Charges
The 27-year-old son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Marius Hoiby, was arrested in Oslo on Monday on charges including rape and abuse, as part of an inquiry involving four women.
This arrest was confirmed by the police in the capital, noticing that that the arrest was with the charge relating to “sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons is unable to resist the act.”
Alongside this charge, Hoiby faces additional accusations of “abuse in close relationships,” breaching a restraining order, and driving without a valid driver’s licence, NBC News reports.
The Royal Palace has refrained from commenting on the issue, directing inquiries to law enforcement and Hoiby’s legal team.
Hoiby’s lawyer, Oyvind Bratlien, has stated that his client denies the rape accusation and is cooperating with the authorities.
According to report, this arrest follows a string of concerning incidents involving Hoiby, such as a violent altercation in Oslo’s Frogner district in August, where he confessed to causing bodily harm and property damage, as well as pleading guilty to making a death threat in a separate incident.
Hoiby previously apologized for his actions earlier this year, attributing them to a mixture of alcohol, drug use, and mental health challenges during an argument, expressing his intention to seek help.
Although not an official member of the Norwegian royal family, Hoiby has been a prominent figure within royal circles since his mother’s marriage to Crown Prince Haakon in 2001.
The investigation into these allegations is ongoing, and the legal outcome for Hoiby will be determined by the conclusion of the criminal proceedings.
