Rivers State Gets New Electoral Chief

Ahead of the fresh local government elections set for August 9, 2025, in Rivers State, the sole administrator has taken steps to reconstitute the electoral body.
Michael Odey has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), succeeding the leadership that initially announced the election date following the Supreme Court’s invalidation of the October 2024 polls.
The newly appointed members of RSIEC include Mr. Lezaasi Lenee Torbir, Professor (Dr) Arthur Nwafor, Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha, Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor, Dr (Mrs) Olive A. Bruce, and Professor Chidi Halliday.
In a broader move, the sole administrator also approved the reinstatement of previously suspended Boards of Agencies, Commissions, and Parastatals within the state.
