Lagos Taskforce Cracks Down on Drug Peddling in Gowon Estate and Egbeda

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce arrested 20 suspects during a targeted operation against illicit drug activities in Gowon Estate and Egbeda. The raids, conducted on Tuesday, focused on known black spots such as the 31 Road intersection, Wole Omo-Osho, and Idoani Streets in Gowon Estate, as well as the Egbeda market area along Egbeda-Idimu Road.
A statement from the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources confirmed that the operation led to the removal of makeshift stalls at Idoani Street junction, previously used as drug sale and consumption points.
Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab praised the swift enforcement on his official X account, stating, “20 suspects were arrested, and various illicit substances and cash were recovered. These criminal hideouts will no longer be tolerated in Lagos State.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to sanitizing public spaces and ensuring residents’ safety.
The taskforce assured that all suspects would face court charges and vowed to sustain such operations to rid the state of criminal networks hiding in informal settlements. Wahab also urged residents to report suspicious activities to authorities.
