NiMet Forecasts Dust Haze and Thunderstorms Across Nigeria Over Coming Days

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted that thunderstorms and dust haze will affect many Nigerian states from Sunday through Tuesday. The agency’s Saturday update indicated moderate dust haze in Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno, Kano, Yobe, and Jigawa States.
Adamawa and Taraba States are likely to experience isolated thunderstorms during this period. For the North-Central region, partly cloudy mornings are expected, with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening over the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Benue.
In the South, morning thunderstorms are forecasted in Lagos, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with more storms spreading later in the day. On Monday, most northern states will enjoy sunny weather, but Taraba and Adamawa may still see morning thunderstorms that could spread to Kaduna, Bauchi, and Gombe.
Thunderstorms are also expected in Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue on Monday. Southern states including Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Edo will likely experience morning thunderstorms and more rain later.
By Tuesday, the northern region will have sunny weather with some clouds, but morning thunderstorms may persist in Adamawa and Taraba. Later thunderstorms could affect Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba. The North-Central area will have partly cloudy mornings followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet advised caution due to strong winds that may precede rain in thunderstorm areas and warned northern residents about dust haze. Airline operators were urged to stay updated with NiMet for safe flight planning.
