FIFA Club W’cup: Saudi’s Al Hilal Defeat Man City In Huge Shock
Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal stunned English powerhouse Manchester City with a dramatic 4-3 extra-time victory on Monday, in what has been the biggest upset of the Club World Cup so far.
The Saudi Pro League side sealed the win in the early hours of Tuesday, needing extra time to edge past the European champions.
Manchester City struck early once again, with Bernardo Silva tapping in from close range within the first 10 minutes marking their fourth straight match with an early lead.
But just 44 seconds into the second half, Marcos Leonardo leveled the score, and Malcom put Al Hilal ahead in the 52nd minute.
Erling Haaland quickly responded, equalizing for City just three minutes later.
Kalidou Koulibaly appeared to have secured the win for Al Hilal with a header from a corner in extra time, but Phil Foden volleyed in another equalizer for City.
However, Leonardo’s second goal of the night, scored eight minutes from the end of extra time, ultimately sealed a historic victory for the 2021 AFC Champions League winners.
