Ex-E’Guinea Anti-corruption DG, Baltasar With Over 400 Sex Tapes Faces Jail Trial
Baltasar Engonga, the embattled former Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, is facing an 18-year prison sentence following his appearance before the Malabo court on corruption charges.
Detained at Black Beach Prison since September 2024, Engonga was arrested in connection with a corruption investigation. Notably, authorities also discovered over 400 explicit videos involving high-profile women in his home and office, although this is not directly linked to the current trial.
Engonga stands accused of embezzlement alongside several other former senior officials. During Monday’s court session, prosecutors outlined what they described as a complex operation to misappropriate public funds for personal benefit.
The alleged scheme, according to prosecutors, was orchestrated during his tenure as head of the Directorate General of Insurance and Reinsurance between 2015 and 2020.
According to Le Bled Parle, the national prosecutor has requested a harsh sentence: eight years for embezzlement, four years and five months for illicit enrichment, and six years and one day for abuse of power.
The charges also carry a proposed fine of over 910 million CFA francs (around $1.5 million), along with a ban on holding any public office during the sentence period.
Recall that during the investigation, authorities reportedly found over 400 sextapes involving wives of prominent figures in the country in Engonga’s possession.
