The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Monday, August 25, 2025, as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Saturday by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Junaidu.
According to Professor Junaidu, the decision followed submissions from the Sultanate Council’s Religious Affairs Committee in collaboration with the National Moon Sighting Committee, which confirmed that no report of the new crescent was received from moon sighting teams across the country on Saturday, August 23, 2025 (29th Safar 1447AH).
He added that Sunday, August 24, 2025, will therefore complete 30 days of Safar, making Monday the beginning of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH.
“His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has accepted the report, and accordingly declared Monday, 25″ August, 2025 as the first day of Rabi’ul Awwal 1447AH,” the statement read.
