NRC Bans Abuja–Kaduna Train Services After Derailment
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has suspended operations on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor following Sunday’s derailment.
Managing Director of the NRC, Kayode Opeifa, said in Abuja that services will remain halted until investigations are completed and safety guaranteed.
He confirmed that six passengers sustained minor injuries and have been treated, while refunds were issued to all affected travelers.
Opeifa dismissed claims of poor maintenance, insisting the trains meet safety standards.
Technical teams from the NRC, Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), and other agencies are probing the cause of the derailment.
The NSIB has also opened a formal investigation as efforts continue to restore safe rail services.
