Hollywood Icon Robert Redford Is Dead— Report
Legendary actor, director, and producer Robert Redford has passed away at the age of 89.
US media reports indicate that the Hollywood icon died peacefully in his sleep early Tuesday morning at his Utah home. His longtime publicist, Cindi Berger, confirmed the news, stating that Redford was surrounded by loved ones at his Sundance residence.
“He will be missed greatly,” Berger said, adding that the family is requesting privacy.
Born on August 18, 1936, in Santa Monica, California, Redford shot to global fame after starring alongside Paul Newman in the 1969 Western classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Following a remarkable career in front of the camera, he moved into directing, earning an Academy Award for Best Director and later co-founding the Sundance Film Festival, which has since become a global platform for independent filmmakers.
Away from Hollywood, Redford was a dedicated environmental activist, spending much of his life championing the protection of Utah’s landscapes and natural resources.
Over six decades, he established himself as one of the most influential and enduring figures in film, leaving behind a legacy that spans acting, directing, and advocacy.
