Juventus Appoints Luciano Spalleti As New Head Coach

Juventus have named former Italy boss Luciano Spalletti as their new manager, with a deal running until the end of the season.

The 66-year-old succeeds Igor Tudor, who was dismissed following Sunday’s Serie A defeat to Lazio.

Tudor had taken over from Thiago Motta in March but departed after seven months, ending an eight-game winless streak.

Spalletti, who guided Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2022/23 season, later became Italy’s head coach after Roberto Mancini’s exit.

Under his leadership, the Azzurri secured qualification for Euro 2024, but were eliminated in the round of 16 by Switzerland.

However, he was dismissed in June after a World Cup qualifying loss to Norway, leaving Italy in danger of missing a third straight World Cup appearance.

A seasoned tactician, Spalletti has also managed Inter Milan, Roma, and Udinese, and twice lifted the Russian Premier League title with Zenit St. Petersburg.

Before his appointment, Massimo Brambilla oversaw Juventus’ 3-1 victory over Udinese on Wednesday, which placed the Turin side seventh in Serie A, six points behind leaders Napoli after nine games.

In Europe, Juventus currently sit 25th in the Champions League league phase, with one loss and two draws from their opening three matches.
