New EFCC Chairman Vows To Resign His Appointment.
Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has threatened to resign if he is forced to behave against his conscience or in breach of the rule of law.
Bawa made this known on Friday while appearing on a Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) special interview programme, ‘One-on-One,’ according to an EFCC statement posted via the commission’s twitter handle on Saturday.
According to a Premium Times report, two of the ten items Nigerians required of Bawa’s EFCC following his appointment in late February were adherence to the rule of law and an independent working relationship with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and others.

In response to these concerns, Mr Bawa said in an NTA interview that “rule of law and fear of God shall be his guiding principles.”
“I will continue to do what is right,” he said, adding that “the commission will continue to follow the rule of law under my supervision.” “I would resign my position if someone asks me to do anything that goes against my conscience or the rule of law.”
Mr. Bawa also claimed that the order requiring all bankers to begin reporting their assets by June 1, 2021 will not be revoked.
He stated that bankers were not required to report their assets to the EFCC, but rather to “statutory bodies,” which he did not specify.

“Laws authorize the commission to investigate properties of public officials, including bankers,” he added.
