President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, honored the Super Eagles of Nigeria with the prestigious national award, Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).
Additionally, he rewarded them with flats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and pieces of land.
President Tinubu made this announcement during a reception held at the Council Chamber in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he received the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The delegation was led by Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development.
The Super Eagles had an impressive performance in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), emerging as the runners-up in the tournament hosted by Côte d’Ivoire.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended the team, coach, crew, and entire management for their dedication, hard work, and sacrifices that brought them this far in the tournament.
He acknowledged the challenges they overcame with consistently improving performances, leading them to the finals.
President Tinubu urged Nigerians to celebrate the team’s remarkable achievements, highlighting the victory they achieved in the hearts of Africa and the world with their resilience, determination, and skill on the field.
“Let this passing event not dispirit us but bring us together to work harder. We are a great nation bound as one by the green-white-green banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and untiring love.
“To those cherished Nigerian youths expressing their gifts in communities, drawing lines in the sand as they play football in their humble rectangles of play, you can be our heroes tomorrow, do not relent in your pursuit. My administration is here to make dreams come true,” the president said.
