BREAKING: Former Man U Paul Pogba Banned From Football For 4 Years
Italian media reports indicate that Juventus player Paul Pogba has been handed a four-year football ban after a failed drug test.
The former Manchester United player was provisionally suspended in September due to elevated testosterone levels detected in his test.
Testosterone, known for enhancing athletes’ endurance, was the basis for the 30-year-old’s random drug test following Juventus’ season opener on August 20, 2023.
BBC Sport states that Pogba intends to contest the ruling by Italy’s national anti-doping tribunal.
The anti-doping tribunal notified Juventus about the ban on Thursday, specifying that it would be retroactively enforced from the date of the failed test.
BBC’s report reveals that Pogba breached regulations due to the presence of non-endogenous testosterone metabolites, indicating external sources of the substances.
After joining Juventus on a four-year deal in July 2022 as a free agent from Manchester United, Pogba returned to the club where he previously played from 2012 to 2016.
He made 178 appearances and scored 34 goals during his earlier tenure with the Italian giants.
Despite winning the 2018 World Cup, Pogba has grappled with persistent injuries since rejoining Juventus, leading to his absence from the recent World Cup in Qatar.
In the current season, he has only played 51 minutes as a substitute in matches against Bologna and Empoli.
