BREAKING: Saudi Announces Ramadan Moon Sighting
The Saudi Arabian authorities have confirmed the sighting of the new moon signaling the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
This announcement marks the start of the period of fasting observed by Muslims worldwide.
This was disclosed via The Kingdom’s Twitter platform, @Haramaininfo, on Sunday.
The tweets partly read, “Crescent of Ramadan 1445/2024 has been sighted in Saudi Arabia!
“Subsequently, Ramadan 1445/2024 begins tomorrow, 11 March 2024.”
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has tentatively set the dates of March 11 and March 12, 2024, for the commencement of Ramadan fasting.
The actual start date will be confirmed after the sighting of the moon on Sunday, March 10.
According to a statement by Prof. Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary General of the NSCIA, Muslims are encouraged to look for the crescent moon on the specified date.
The council has also requested those who spot the crescent to report their sightings to the National Moon Sighting Committee.
As of now, the Sultan of Sokoto has not made an official announcement regarding the beginning of Ramadan in Nigeria despite the declaration from Saudi Arabia.
It is advised to stay tuned for further updates on the commencement of Ramadan fasting in Nigeria.
