BREAKING: Supreme Court Cancels National Lottery Act
The Supreme Court has Cancelled the National Lottery Act of 2005 that was put into effect by the National Assembly.
This decision was made following a legal case initiated back in 2008 by Lagos and other states.
In a collective ruling by all seven members on Friday, the Apex Court stated that the National Assembly did not have the authority to create laws regarding lottery and gambling activities.
According to the lead justice, Mohammed Idris, the power to legislate on matters concerning lottery and games of chance lies solely with the state Houses of Assembly.
The Court further declared that the National Lottery Act of 2005 should no longer be implemented in any state with the exception of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
