BREAKING: Reps Orders NCC To Block All Pornographic Sites In Nigeria
The Nigerian House of Representatives has instructed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to take immediate action in blocking access to all pornographic websites in the country.
The House mandated the NCC to ensure that all internet service providers comply with this directive without delay.
The motion, which led to the resolution, was sponsored by Dalhatu Tafoki, a lawmaker from Katsina State representing the All Progressives Congress (APC).
While presenting the motion, Tafoki expressed concern over the growing issue of cyber pornography, emphasizing that Nigeria had not taken sufficient measures to combat the problem. He highlighted that several countries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East had already implemented laws banning pornographic content.
According to him, Nigeria is a “highly religious country” where major faiths preach against and prohibit nudity and obscenity.
Tafoki also cited warnings from psychologists and sociologists regarding the harmful effects of pornography, arguing that it could contribute to issues such as adultery, prostitution, and addiction.
“Renowned psychologists and sociologists around the world have issued stern warnings on the psychological, sociological and mental consequences of viewing pornographic content,” he said.
Following a voice vote, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas confirmed that the motion received the support of the lawmakers.
Consequently, the House directed the NCC to enforce strict penalties on service providers that fail to comply with the directive.
