Nigeria Police Identify, Summon Officers Caught Extorting Motorists in Viral Video

Following the circulation of a disturbing video showing police officers extorting motorists, the Nigeria Police Force has identified the culprits and summoned them for questioning.
The video, which gained widespread attention on Monday, depicts an officer demanding ₦5,000 or five litres of fuel from drivers unable to provide proof of Electronic Central Motor Registry registration.
In an official statement on X, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi condemned the actions of the officers involved. “This action is utterly condemned. The officers have been identified and summoned to Force Headquarters for necessary action,” he said.
Adejobi reassured the public that the Force remains committed to maintaining discipline and professionalism. “We will not tolerate any act of indiscipline or unprofessionalism. We will update the public on our decisions as soon as possible. Thanks.”
This incident highlights ongoing challenges in policing and the urgent need for reforms to curb corruption within the force. The police’s response aims to demonstrate accountability and deter similar misconduct in the future.
