Lyon’s Ligue 1 Relegation Overturned — French Football Federation Confirmed
Seven-time French champions Lyon have retained their place in Ligue 1 after successfully appealing their relegation, the French Football Federation (FFF) announced on Wednesday.
The club had been demoted to Ligue 2 last month by French football’s financial watchdog, which had imposed budget restrictions on them since November.
Following this, American businesswoman Michele Kang replaced fellow American John Textor as club president.
The FFF stated that Lyon must now reduce both their wage bill and transfer budget for the upcoming season.
“Lyon would like to thank the appeal commission after it recognised the ambition of the new club management,” the club said in a statement.
“Today’s decision constitutes the first step of re-establishing trust in Lyon.”
