FIFA W’CUP: Super Eagles Storm Into Playoff Final After 4–1 Extra-Time Win Over Gabon

Nigeria booked their place in the CAF playoff final on Thursday after overpowering Gabon 4–1 in extra time in Rabat, setting up a decisive showdown with either DR Congo or Cameroon for a spot in the intercontinental playoff.

The game burst into life late in the second half when Akor Adams punished a sloppy back pass in the 78th minute to put the Super Eagles ahead.

Gabon, however, forced a dramatic finish. Mario Lemina’s deflected effort in the 89th minute leveled the score, sending the match into extra time after a tense 1–1 regulation period.

Once in extra time, Nigeria seized complete control. Chidera Ejuke restored the lead in the 97th minute with a composed strike following good work from Wilfred Ndidi.

Victor Osimhen then delivered a stunning brace, striking from a tight angle in the 102nd minute before adding his second in the 110th to seal a dominant 4–1 victory.

Nigeria’s bench made timely contributions, with Onyeka replacing Adams in the 83rd minute and defensive reinforcements Awaziem and Ekong entering in the 108th.

Gabon made several substitutions in search of a response but found no way through Nigeria’s resolute defense.

With the victory, the Super Eagles move within one match of the World Cup intercontinental playoff as they await the winner of the DR Congo–Cameroon clash.
