Madagascar records its first death case of COVID-19
The Indian ocean island, Madagascar has on Sunday recorded the first death case of ravaging coronavirus.
This is happening almost two months after it was first confirmed in the country, official statistics showed that.
Madagascar has reported 304 cases has hit the headlines over a home-grown herbal concoction that President Andry Rajoelina claims can treat people infected with the deadly virus.
Many African countries have ordered or expressed interest in the herbal drugs, which is known as COVID-Organics.
Onyxnews Nigeria understands that the tonic drink is derived from artemisia — a plant with proven efficacy in malaria treatment — and other indigenous herbs.
But the World Health Organization has warned against “adopting a product that has not been taken through tests to see its efficacy.
Since the virus surfaced in Wuhan, China last December, it has spread to 188 countries and regions.
According to a running tally by US-based Johns Hopkins University, the global death cases from the deadly pandemic has exceeded 312,200, with more than 4.65 million confirmed cases and about 1.7 million recoveries.
On Nigeria’s part, the giant of Africa had recorded new cases of the ravaging disease in the country.
This reliable online news platform reported on May 16 that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that 176 fresh cases of the raging pandemic has been recorded in Nigeria, making the total number of cases of the deadly virus 5621 in the country.
With the new cases of one hundred and seventy six (176), death cases are one hundred and seventy six (176) and dicharged cases are one thousand, four hundred and seventy two (1472), so the total cases of the disease in Nigeria as at Saturday night, 16 May 2020 is 5621.
