Governor Obaseki has obtained court clearance to partake in PDP primary election.

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has refuasekised to stop the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki from participating in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election.

The election is scheduled  for Thursday, 25 June 2020.

Obaseki was granted refusal by the PDP recently after he joined the opposition party from the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC).

The suit was instituted by one of the PDP gubernatorial aspirants, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who had promised not to step down for Obaseki.

A key reason stated by Mr Ogbeide-Ihama was that Obaseki recently joined the party and only those who bought the forms during the stipulated window should be allowed to participate in the primaries.

Just like Obaseki’s former party, the APC, Ogbeide-Ihama also questioned his educational credentials.

Ogbeide-Ihama also prayed that the primaries be suspended pending when the court would hear the motion on notice.

The judge, E. A Obile, however, did not grant that prayer. The judge asked that the motion seeking to bar Obaseki be served on the defendants including Obaseki via newspaper publication.

Many reports earlier on Tuesday reported that Governor Obaseki had been stopped by the court from participating in Edo primary election through PDP platform.

According to Premium times, those accounts of the court proceeding were inaccurate.
