USA, Mexico Propose To Co-host 2027 Women’s World Cup
The announcement was made on Friday that the United States and Mexico have jointly submitted a bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
However, it is anticipated that their bid will face competition from Brazil and a three-nation European bid consisting of Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands.
If the North American bid is successful, it will continue the trend of hosting major international tournaments in the region.
The USA is already scheduled to host CONMEBOL’s Copa America next year and FIFA’s expanded Club World Cup in 2025. Additionally, the 2026 World Cup is being co-hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
Cindy Parlow Cone, U.S. Soccer president, expressed the desire to replicate many aspects of the successful 2026 men’s tournament.
“The U.S. and Mexico are in a unique position to host a World Cup that will leverage the same venues, infrastructure, and protocols used for the Men’s World Cup just a year prior,” she said.
“As a result, we believe the time is right to host a FIFA Women’s World Cup that features a truly world-class experience for players and fans, alike. This will not only unlock the economic potential of women’s soccer, it will send a message to young players around the world that there is no limit to what they can achieve,” she added.
It should be noted that the last women’s World Cup was held in Australia and New Zealand, while the USA has previously hosted the tournament in 1999 and 2003.
The most recent time the tournament was held in North America was when Canada hosted it in 2015.
The United States has an exceptional record in the women’s game, winning the World Cup on four occasions and establishing themselves as the most successful nation in women’s soccer.
