EFCC To Appeal Emefiele’s N100m Fine
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is unhappy with a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court judgment awarding former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, N100 million in damages for unlawful detention.
The EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement that the commission would appeal the ruling immediately.
Oyewale noted that the judge, Justice O.A. Adeniyi, had ruled that the EFCC’s detention of Emefiele was a violation of his right to liberty.
“The decision failed to take cognizance of the fact that the former CBN boss was held with a valid order of court. Consequently, the Commission will approach the Court of Appeal to set it aside,” he said.
