JUST IN: Zenith Bank Appoints Adaora Umeoji As New GMD/CEO
Zenith Bank Plc recently disclosed the appointment of Dr. Adaora Umeoji as the Group Managing Director/CEO, effective June 1.
This announcement was relayed in a notification to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, NGX by the bank’s Company Secretary, Mr. Michael Otu.
The appointment is pending approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Dr. Umeoji will succeed Dr. Ebenezer Onyeagwu, whose five-year term as the bank’s Group Managing Director concludes on May 31.
Upon assuming this role, she will be the first female GMD/CEO in the history of the institution.
Her appointment aligns with Zenith Bank’s commitment to internal talent development through a structured succession plan.
Before her promotion, Dr. Umeoji served as the Deputy Managing Director at Zenith Bank since October 28, 2016, accumulating nearly three decades of banking experience, predominantly within the bank for 26 years.
Dr. Umeoji boasts an impressive educational background, having attended notable institutions such as Harvard Business School and Columbia Business School.
She holds multiple degrees including a Bachelor’s in Sociology, Accounting, and a First-Class honors in Law.
Furthermore, she obtained a Master of Law from the University of Salford, a Master in Business Administration from the University of Calabar, and a Doctorate in Business Administration from Apollos University.
In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Umeoji has enriched her professional expertise through executive programs at various respected institutions globally, such as MIT Sloan School of Management and Wharton Business School.
Her diversified educational portfolio also includes certifications from Harvard Business School and other universities renowned for their management programs.
In conclusion, Dr. Adaora Umeoji’s extensive experience, combined with her illustrious educational background, positions her well to lead Zenith Bank as its new Group Managing Director/CEO, continuing the bank’s legacy of strong leadership and strategic vision.
