Marley Testifies, Points to Mohbad’s Wife, Others for Questioning

In a virtual testimony before a Lagos coroner’s court, Nigerian musician Naira Marley has urged a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of his former labelmate, Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad. Marley specifically requested the court to scrutinize the involvement of Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, and approximately 14 other individuals who were present at the deceased singer’s residence in the 48 to 72 hours leading up to his death.
Marley, through his lawyer Olusola Okuwobi, stated that he was outside Nigeria at the time of Mohbad’s death and maintained that there was no animosity between them. He emphasized the importance of focusing on those who were physically present during Mohbad’s final days, rather than relying on speculation from social media or police reports.
“Mr. Fashola testified that he was abroad during the unfortunate incident,” Okuwobi relayed in a statement. “He also clarified the nature of his professional relationship with the late Mohbad and insisted there was no ill will between them. He called on the coroner to examine the testimonies of Omowunmi and the others who were at the residence during the critical period.”
Marley also alleged that those present were attempting to deflect attention by circulating an older video, despite Mohbad having apologized for it and being forgiven prior to leaving the record label.
Meanwhile, a group called The Concerned Nigeria Citizens in Diaspora has echoed Marley’s call for a reinvestigation, specifically demanding that the police thoroughly examine the accounts of Mohbad’s brother, Adura Aloba, Omowunmi, and others present at the residence. They believe that inconsistencies in Omowunmi’s statements warrant further scrutiny. The group’s spokesperson, Victoria Janolewsky-Peters, stated, “We urge the police to follow the lead provided by Mr. Fashola’s testimony. We believe a comprehensive investigation into the roles of Mohbad’s brother, wife, and others present is crucial to uncovering the truth.”
