Anambra Government Bars Party Uniforms During President Tinubu’s Visit to Ensure Peace

In preparation for President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Anambra State on May 8, the state government has banned the wearing of political party uniforms at the reception venue to prevent political tensions.
Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Political Matters, disclosed the directive in a statement on Thursday.
The President will hold a town hall meeting with key stakeholders at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, and commission several projects, including the new government house and Solution Fun City.
Obiogbolu emphasized, “This is to inform you that everybody coming to Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka for the reception of President Bola Tinubu tomorrow, should be in mufti. Please nobody should put on APGA clothes, or Support Groups uniforms.” The move is intended to avoid unnecessary political rivalry and maintain focus on the visit’s objectives.
Sources indicated that both APC and APGA supporters had mobilized to attend in uniform, aiming to show visible support. The APC reportedly feared the visit could be interpreted as a vote of no confidence in their governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, especially during the election period. The uniform ban was a condition for the President’s attendance.
Security preparations include the deployment of 1,531 Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps officers.
