JAMB Uncovers Blind-to-Blind Impersonation in 2025 UTME

In a surprising revelation, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that a blind candidate engaged another blind undergraduate to sit the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on his behalf.

The information was shared by JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, during a press conference in Abuja.

Prof. Oloyede said the impersonation case involved an undergraduate student who is visually impaired, highlighting the desperation among some candidates despite the board’s support measures. “The Prof. Peter Okebukola-led JAMB Equal Opportunity Group continues to demonstrate exceptional dedication in ensuring that these candidates are able to sit examinations, regardless of their challenges,” he noted.

The board provided comprehensive support for disabled candidates, including refunds of registration fees and provision of transportation, lodging, and feeding. In 2025, 501 blind candidates were examined across 11 centres by JEOG. “Sadly, one of them was also involved in impersonation by recruiting an undergraduate student who is also blind to come and write for another blind candidate,” Oloyede confirmed.

The 2025 UTME results, released on Friday, showed a significant number of candidates scoring below the average pass mark of 200. The exam is scored out of 400 and tests candidates in four subjects, including the compulsory Use of English.

Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa praised the results as evidence of effective government efforts to reduce exam malpractice.
