Former LP Lawmaker Daniel Asuquo Defects to APC, Predicts Massive Win in Cross River

In a major political move, Daniel Asuquo, ex-representative of Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency and former PDP governorship hopeful, has defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressives Congress. The defection was officially marked at a grand reception held by the APC at its Calabar Secretariat on Saturday.
Asuquo, also known as Dansuki, praised the leadership of Governor Bassey Otu, describing Cross River as “governed by God’s special people.” He confidently forecasted that APC would “sweep all polling units” in the 2027 general elections, signaling a significant boost for the party.
He commended Governor Otu’s “people’s first” governance style, highlighting his “commitment, hard work, openness, receptivity and generosity” as qualities that have endeared him to the electorate and party members.
Asuquo announced that the “Obedient movement” within the Labour Party, which he led, has now merged with the APC along with other key PDP defectors. This alliance, he assured, would secure 500,000 votes for Governor Otu and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 polls.
“The President will for the first time in Cross River State win election overwhelmingly. With the Obedient movement collapsed into APC and with my friends from PDP, we are sure of 500,000 votes for Governor Otu and President Tinibu in 2027,” he stated.
He explained that his decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to collaborate with Governor Otu’s administration to enhance the state’s economic growth. “My decision to join the APC is to unite with Governor Bassey Otu-led administration to move the state higher with more economic power and potential,” Asuquo said.
Emphasizing politics as a form of service, he described his defection as a “moment of service and payback” to his supporters. “It is very necessary to know that Politics is service. I present myself for service. Service to pay back our people, especially all those who have worked with me,” he remarked, thanking APC leaders for their support and pledging electoral success.
APC State Chairman Alphonsus Eba lauded Asuquo for following the party’s due process, including registering at the ward level to become a full member. “You have become a bonafide member of our party,” Eba said, noting that the reception was held with Governor Otu’s approval and represented by Deputy Governor Peter Odey.
This defection is poised to reshape political alignments in Cross River ahead of the 2027 elections.
