[VIDEO]: NDLEA’s Drug Seizure at Lagos Airport Reveals Evolving Trafficking Tactics

Published

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has once again demonstrated its effectiveness in combating drug trafficking with a recent seizure of cannabis concealed inside packages marked as plantain chips at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Femi Babafemi, who shared the development on Sunday via his X account, “Narco-trend update: This consignment was packaged as plantain chips, but inside was a skunk, as discovered by vigilant #ndlea_nigeria officers in one of their latest seizures at Lagos airport.” The term “skunk” refers to a potent strain of marijuana known for its high THC content.

This seizure highlights a growing trend among traffickers to use everyday consumer goods as cover for illegal drugs, complicating detection efforts. The NDLEA’s success in this case underscores the importance of intelligence, training, and vigilance in law enforcement operations.

Babafemi’s caution to Nigerians—“Always be careful of what you’re given to travel with!”—is a timely reminder of the risks posed by drug traffickers who often exploit unsuspecting individuals as couriers.

As drug trafficking methods evolve, the NDLEA continues to adapt its strategies to intercept illicit consignments and protect Nigeria’s borders from the influx of narcotics.
