Bomb Explosion at Borno Bus Stop Claims Nine Lives, Many Injured

Tragedy struck Mairari village in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at a busy bus stop, killing nine passengers and injuring numerous others.
The blast occurred at approximately 11 a.m., targeting innocent people waiting to board vehicles. Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, confirmed the incident to Journalists on Sunday, lamenting the loss. “It is unfortunate that nine of my resilient constituents were killed by planted IEDs while waiting to board vehicles at a local bus stop in Mairari village,” he said. He prayed for the victims’ eternal peace and for the recovery of the injured, who were taken to hospitals in Monguno and Maiduguri.
Mairari village, once resettled twice by civil authorities, has been deserted again due to persistent Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks. Lawan highlighted that displaced residents often return to the village for farming, making them vulnerable to terrorist attacks. “Terrorists who have been monitoring their movements planted IEDs at the local bus stop, which exploded while they were waiting to board commercial vehicles back to their destinations,” he explained.
The Speaker urged security forces to restore safety in Guzamala and its environs, emphasizing the urgent need to reclaim areas long under insurgent control.
