Military Operation in Kwara Leads to Arrest of Eight Kidnap Suspects, Rescue of Two Hostages

Troops deployed from the 22 Armoured Brigade at the Forward Operating Base in Patigi, Kwara State, have successfully apprehended eight suspected kidnappers and rescued two individuals during a coordinated operation on Saturday.
The military operation, which was based on credible intelligence, targeted a suspected hideout on the outskirts of Latandaji Village in Patigi Local Government Area. According to Lt. Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Brigade, “Acting on credible intelligence, troops launched a tactical operation on Saturday, 21 June 2025, targeting a hideout on the outskirts of Latandaji Village, Patigi Local Government Area.”
The suspects reportedly attempted mild resistance but were overpowered by the military’s swift and decisive action. “During the engagement, troops encountered mild resistance but swiftly subdued the criminals with superior firepower,” the statement read.
The operation led to the successful rescue of two kidnap victims, Mr. Amos Moses and Mr. Philip Michael, and the arrest of eight suspects. Additionally, Mr. Mohammed Mohammed sustained gunshot injuries during the encounter and was transported to Bachita Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Military personnel also recovered two motorcycles and two expended cartridges from the scene, which are believed to have been used by the suspects. All apprehended individuals are currently in military custody pending preliminary investigations, after which they will be handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution.
The military has reiterated its commitment to maintaining security and peace in the area, vowing to continue efforts to eliminate criminal elements in Kwara State.
