Justice Kekere-Ekun Appoints New NJI Administrator —Details
The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has appointed Justice Babatunde Adejumo as the new Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI), effective August 1, 2025.
This appointment comes with the endorsement of the NJI’s Board of Governors, which is chaired by Justice Kekere-Ekun.
The announcement was made on Thursday through a statement signed by the CJN’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Tobi Soniyi.
According to the statement, Justice Adejumo will take over from Justice Salisu Abdullahi, whose four-year tenure as Administrator concludes on July 31, 2025, after a period marked by dedicated and commendable service.
The statement read, “This appointment was made by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria following due consultation with the Board of Governors, in accordance with the provisions of the National Judicial Institute Act.
“The Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, expresses her profound appreciation to the outgoing administrator for his tireless commitment and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the Institute and the Nigerian judiciary as a whole.”
Justice Adejumo is recognized as a distinguished jurist and experienced administrator, having served as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria until his retirement in 2019.
His extensive experience and expertise in judicial administration are expected to significantly contribute to the advancement of the Institute’s mission in enhancing judicial capacity and fostering institutional growth.
The NJI serves as the foremost institution for the continuous education and professional development of judicial officers and their supporting staff throughout Nigeria’s judiciary.
As a hub of judicial excellence, the Institute is tasked with improving the efficiency, consistency, and overall quality of judicial services nationwide.
It regularly organizes training programs, seminars, workshops, and conferences designed to elevate the competence, ethics, and performance of judicial personnel in line with international best practices.
