JUST IN: Tinubu Departs Nigeria To TICAD9 In Japan, Brazil— Reasons For The Trip Emerge

 

President Bola Tinubu on Friday left Abuja for a two-nation official visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stop in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Sources confirmed that the President departed the nation’s capital at 11:15 a.m., accompanied to the airport by top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Before boarding the presidential jet, Tinubu exchanged handshakes and pleasantries with dignitaries present to see him off.

The trip, initially announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, to begin on Thursday, was rescheduled to Friday.

According to Onanuga, Tinubu’s first stop will be Japan, where he will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

In addition to participating in plenary sessions, he will hold bilateral talks and meet with executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria.

Following the Japan visit, the President will travel to Brasília for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
