A man accused of racially abusing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the Premier League season opener has been barred from attending football matches across the UK.

The incident occurred during Friday’s clash with Liverpool at Anfield, where play was temporarily halted in the first half after Semenyo alerted the referee.

According to Merseyside Police, a 47-year-old Liverpool man was arrested the following day on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and has since been released on bail.

His bail conditions prohibit him from attending any regulated football match in the UK and from going within one mile of any football stadium. Police confirmed that investigations are still underway.

Despite the incident, Ghanaian international Semenyo went on to score twice as Bournemouth rallied from two goals down, though Liverpool ultimately secured a 4-2 victory.

Semenyo, 25, said on social media that the night at Anfield would stay with him forever “because of how the entire football family stood together”.

“Football showed its best side when it mattered most,” he wrote, thanking his team-mates, Liverpool players and fans, as well as the Premier League officials “who handled it professionally”.
