Manchester City Marmoush To Miss Out Derby With Knee Injur
Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush has been ruled out of Sunday’s Manchester derby after sustaining a knee ligament injury while on international duty, Manchester City confirmed on Wednesday.
Marmoush, 26, was forced off in the fourth minute of Egypt’s goalless World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on Tuesday.
He initially attempted to continue after the challenge but eventually limped off.
“Initial results on a scan performed in Egypt indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday, and he will now return to Manchester for more assessment and to begin his rehabilitation,” Manchester City said in a statement.
The Egyptian FA had earlier described the setback as “a bruised knee ligament.”
City, who host Manchester United this weekend, are under pressure following two defeats in their first three league games.
Since his £59 million ($79.8m) switch from Eintracht Frankfurt in January, Marmoush has scored eight goals in 28 appearances for the club.
