Portugal Launches Schengen Visa Scheme For Nigerian Remote Workers (See Requirements)
Portugal has announced, to launch a new “digital nomad visa” starting from 30 October, this year.
Under the new visa regime, remote workers who make at least $2,750 a month can apply to live and work in Portugal for one year of residency and stay longer.
The European Country on Monday released the requirements for the visa. The programme will allow recipients to travel visa-free throughout the Schengen Area, a region containing 26 European Union member countries where travellers can move freely without dealing with border control.
Applications can be made at a Portuguese consulate in the applicant’s home country or at Portugal’s immigration agency, Servio de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras.
Proof of income for the last three months is required, and applicants must submit tax residency documents and a contract of employment (or evidence of self-employment).
Other European countries, like Spain and Italy, have similar digital nomad visa schemes in the works. The income bracket falls between €2,50.
In Hungary, the digital nomad visa has a slightly lower monthly income threshold of €2,000 and allows visa-free travel through the Schengen area.
Malta’s remote work visa pegs applicant’s minimum monthly income at €2,700, or $2,630, but they are entirely exempt from any local income taxes, making it one of the most tax-friendly digital nomad visas.
