FG Declared Opening Of 2nd Edition Of National Paralympic Games 

The Second Edition of the National Para Games has officially commenced, as declared by Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the opening ceremony in Abuja.

While The ceremony was ongoing at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, President Tinubu said that, “will not only foster inclusivity in Sports but that it is also a testament of government’s determination and support for athletes with disabilities.” 

The President emphasized that this event serves as a platform to showcase the resilience, determination, and extraordinary sporting talent of athletes in the country.

He highlighted the Games as a symbol of empowerment and encouragement for individuals with disabilities to pursue their passion for sports at a competitive level.

The President, represented by the Honorable Minister of Sports Development Sen John Owan Enoh, stated that the National Para Games aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

He reassured that the government remains committed to promoting inclusivity in sports and providing equal opportunities for all athletes to excel and represent their states and the nation with pride.

Expressing admiration for the dedication and perseverance exhibited by the para-athletes, he commended their courage and tenacity in overcoming challenges to participate in this prestigious event.

During a press conference after the opening ceremony, he reiterated his commitment to providing effective leadership for the development of sports in the country.

The President also took the opportunity to call on sports enthusiasts, relevant stakeholders, private organizations, and corporate entities to collaborate with the Federal Government in its mission to ensure the holistic development of sports in the country, following global best practices.

Notable dignitaries present at the opening ceremony included the Honorable Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon Mohammed Abba Isa, directors of the Ministry, and various sports directors from different states.

This year’s National Para Games is expected to witness the participation of approximately 3,000 athletes and officials from all 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
