AFCON 2023: Super Eagles Ekong, Aina, Others Make Tournament Best IX
The players from the Super Eagles, William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, and Ademola Lookman, have been recognized for their outstanding performances and included in the Best XI of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, as announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Troost-Ekong’s notable contributions include scoring three goals for the Super Eagles and being awarded the Player of the Tournament title.
Aina’s defensive skills were highlighted in his selection for the Best XI, showcasing his impact for the Nigerian team.
Ademola Lookman, the Atalanta winger, also stood out with three goals in seven appearances during the competition.
Besides the Nigerian trio, hosts Cote d’Ivoire also had three players – Jean Michael Seri, Ghislan Konan, and Franck Kessie – named in the tournament’s Best XI.
The full list of the Best XI includes goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from South Africa, defenders Ola Aina (Nigeria), Ghislan Konan (Cote d’Ivoire), William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria), and Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo).
The midfielders featured Teboho Mokoena (South Africa), Jean Michael Seri (Cote d’Ivoire), and Franck Kessie, with strikers Yoane Wissa (DR Congo), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria), and Emilio Nsue (Equatorial Guinea).
Overall, these players have earned their spots in the Best XI due to their exceptional performances throughout the tournament, showcasing their skills and contributions to their respective national teams.
