EU Announces €37m In Nigeria’s Power Sector
The European Union has announced an investment of €37 million in Nigeria’s power sector, as revealed by EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi.
In a statement released by the power ministry, Isopi shared this information during a meeting with Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
This new €37 million investment is in addition to the approximately €200 million in grants that the European Union has already put into Nigeria’s power sector since 2008.
Joining the ambassador in discussions were the new Head of Cooperation of the EU, Mr. Luca Massimo, and the Programme Manager on Energy, Mr. Godfrey Ogbemudia.
During the meeting, Isopi highlighted the EU’s ongoing intervention efforts in the power sector, specifying that the current support package will focus on initiatives such as small hydropower and solar projects for healthcare facilities.
The fresh investment will also extend to rural electrification through isolated and interconnected mini-grid projects, as well as projects promoting circular economy practices within the power sector.
“She (Isopi) said the projects would commence this year,” the statement added.
