Taking Break From Music For Education Wasn’t Difficult Decision — Duncan Mighty
Renowned Nigerian musician, Duncan Mighty, shared that his choice to take a hiatus from music for educational pursuits was not a difficult one. Speaking openly in an interview with 3Music TV in Accra, Ghana, Duncan Mighty revealed that he had already obtained a Master of Science degree in Acoustics from Freiburg University in Germany.
The artist, known as the ‘Port Harcourt First Son,’ emphasized that he is not solely dependent on his musical gifts, as he now aspires to pursue a Doctorate of Philosophy degree (PhD).
Duncan Mighty emphasized that he views education as a lifelong asset, underscoring his commitment to continue his academic journey.
Reflecting on his experience studying at an international institution, where he had to undergo Dutch language courses before admission, Duncan Mighty highlighted the importance of education. He urged fellow musicians to consider furthering their education, emphasizing its role in protecting their careers and assets amidst the competitive music industry.
“Taking a break from music wasn’t a difficult decision. Most importantly, you must be able to equip yourself. You must be in charge of your career or business. For me, talent is not enough, music is not enough.
“I have to back it up with education. Studying in an international community like Freiburg University… It is not an English-speaking university. You had to do Dutch language courses for six months, then you would be admitted to school.
“But I give God praise. I think education is the only thing that remains with you, even in old age. So if you cannot go to school when your parents could send, you should go when you can.
“That was why I took a break from music. I’m not done with education yet. I must have a PhD.”
“If you’re not educated, someone is out there waiting to use everything you have made. Be careful, it is not about singing today. It’s called the recording business,” he said during the interview.
