JUST IN: Social Media Activist, VeryDarkMan Remanded In Custody
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman, be held in police custody after the police opposed his bail application.
The social media influencer was arraigned on five counts of cyberstalking.
The case has been postponed until the following Wednesday, May 29, 2024.
The police prosecution team requested additional time to reply to the application, and the court granted their request.
The police prosecution requested that the blogger be held in prison custody, but his attorneys filed an application for him to be held in police custody.
The court granted their request, and he was taken to the National Cybercrime Centre.
Some of the accusations state that Verydarkblackman intentionally posted videos on his Instagram account ‘verydarkblackman’ containing false information that was intended to cause annoyance, harassment, danger, insult, injury, and criminal intimidation to the individuals mentioned in the posts.
VeryDarkMan had previously criticized the Nigerian police for failing to arrest the contentious cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.
VeryDarkMan condemned the award of Best Dressed Female to the cross-dresser at a Nollywood event in recent videos.
The Nigeria Police Force stated at the time that they could not arrest Bobrisky because there was no law against cross-dressing in the country and there was no proof that he was involved in same-sex relationships.
Recall that in April, the police stated that their case against VeryDarkMan was not yet closed.
The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated this while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today show, adding that the social media influencer’s delayed release from detention was based on a court order.
VeryDarkMan was arrested by the police due to allegations that they had received a number of complaints about his online behavior.
