The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended Adekolajo Aladeseyi, who allegedly installed himself as the Olujare of Ijare in Ifedore Local Government Area without following due legal procedures. Alongside Aladeseyi, four other individuals involved in the installation ceremony were also detained.

State Commissioner of Police Olutokunbo Afolabi confirmed the arrests, emphasizing that the operation was conducted under the directive of the state government. He clarified that the installation lacked approval from both local and state authorities.

“This action was necessary to maintain peace and prevent a potential breakdown of law and order in the community. The suspects’ conduct was unlawful, and their actions could have resulted in violence,” Afolabi stated.

The Olujare stool, a first-class traditional rulership, has been vacant since the death of Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun, Kokotiri II, four years ago. Some kingmakers and royal families in Ijare had opposed Aladeseyi’s installation, alleging exclusion from the lawful selection process.

The police commissioner added that the suspects would face court charges after investigations conclude.
