APC Lagos Local Government Primaries Begin Amid Tight Security and Calls for Unity
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has begun its primaries for chairmanship candidates ahead of the July 12 local government elections, with heavy security presence at the Ikeja party secretariat.
The primaries will determine candidates for the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State.
Security personnel from the police, civil defence, and intelligence agencies are on high alert to maintain order. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has imposed restrictions on traffic flow around the venue, resulting in significant congestion on ACME Road and surrounding areas.
APC Electoral Committee Chairman Babatunde Ogala appealed to the media for balanced reportage and explained that the accreditation process was slightly delayed to ensure inclusivity. He emphasized the party’s commitment to a smooth and secure primary process. The primaries follow a rigorous screening exercise that cleared 432 aspirants from an initial 470, with disqualifications based on voter card and membership documentation issues.
