President Bola Tinubu has been conferred with the Lifetime African Achievement award by the Millennium Excellence Foundation, an accolade that celebrates his enduring impact on the continent.

The award was presented during the foundation’s 25th anniversary at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, Ghana, where Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu accepted the honour on his behalf.

Tinubu, in his remarks, lauded the patron of the foundation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his leadership and the successful execution of the event. He acknowledged the foundation’s dedication to honouring individuals who have elevated Africa and inspired generations, stating, “I salute the visionaries who have nurtured this institution for a quarter of a century and also celebrate the values of honour, integrity, service, and excellence that underpin its work.”

He specifically praised the foundation for recognising luminaries such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Prof. Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr. Mo Ibrahim. Tinubu called on young Africans to rise courageously and contribute to the continent’s progress, particularly in science, technology, education, governance, entrepreneurship, and the arts.

He emphasised the need for unity and collaboration across Africa, urging the foundation to continue inspiring excellence and leadership. “The award ceremony, from inception in 1988, remained a beacon of inspiration and recognition across the continent,” Tinubu noted. He added that the foundation’s mission aligns with the aspirations of Nigeria and all African nations.

Other awardees at the event included Dr. Benedict Oramah of AFREXIM Bank for trade excellence, Governor Umo Eno for governance, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu for business excellence, and Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs for traditional leadership.
