PDP’s Future in Jeopardy, Suswam Warns Amidst Leadership Crisis and Defections

Senator Gabriel Suswam, former governor of Benue State, has cautioned that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may not survive to contest the 2027 elections if its leadership fails to resolve ongoing crises.
The party is currently embroiled in a bitter contest over its national secretary position, alongside a wave of defections that have weakened its ranks.
Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, Suswam described the party as being in a precarious condition, saying, “A lot of people are hanging on, waiting to see the ultimate end of this party.” He pointed to the recent defection of key figures such as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to the APC as a turning point.
Suswam highlighted that many members have lost hope in the party’s future but acknowledged efforts by PDP governors and former governors, led by ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, to rescue the party. “Whether there is light at the end of the tunnel in the efforts made by Senator Saraki will be seen in the next two weeks,” he noted.
He likened the PDP’s situation to a patient in intensive care, with survival chances at fifty percent. “If Saraki’s team fails, the party may not survive,” Suswam warned.
